Why videos are useful for employee training

The video format is omnipresent in everyday life and companies are also increasingly turning to multimedia tools. This applies not only to external communication, but also to internal matters such as employee training. For companies, this is not a case of blindly following a trend or a fad; there are good reasons why it makes sense to use videos in corporate training. We present some of them to you.

The video format can conveypersonality like no other medium. As a result, it can strengthen the bond between the people depicted in the video and the viewers. Above all, a video that tells a story engages the viewer and can have a particularly motivating effect. This is why the use of the video format is particularly suitable for companies that want to strengthen the bond between their employees. This bond is strengthened simply by the fact that colleagues see each other in the videos.

The video format is ideal for clear demonstrations. There is no more effective way to illustrate a process in all its steps than visual representation. What's more, some topics and training content virtually demand implementation in video format, such as training courses that focus on body language or physical actions.

The video format generates more attention per se than a text. It is therefore no surprise that content from video training is more likely to be internalized than simple text content, such as PDF documents.

The video format supports the promotion of soft skills. When it comes to training a convincing appearance or formulating appropriate answers, video is the tool of choice. Sales training, but also negotiation training or preparation training for job interviews are just a few examples of training courses in which precise body language or intonation when speaking can only be taught live or via video.

Now some of you may be asking the question: Will the video format break my budget? When it comes to video, many companies are concerned that the implementation will degenerate into a costly high-end production, and this with expensive outsourcing to video production companies. But this is a fallacy. Training participants do not expect a glossy video with a corporate feel. Quite the opposite: an informal, authentic appearance, the spontaneous filming of a training course, has been proven to have a much stronger effect.

And no professional equipment is required for this. High-quality videos can easily be recorded using a webcam, a cell phone camera or a video camera from the consumer segment. As these cameras are very easy to operate, every employee can become a trainer themselves.
