Timeline

Working with the Timeline in the Editor

Overview

In this article, you’ll learn how the timeline in the editor works and how to place and move elements on it.

The timeline is the central tool in video editing. Here, you can arrange, trim, and edit all elements — such as videos, text, shapes, and slides — in chronological order.

Elements on the Timeline

On the timeline, you’ll find the following element types:

  • 🎥 Videos / Audio – Blue track
  • 🎵 Additional Audio Track – Orange track
  • 🖼️ Slides / Images – Yellow elements
  • 🔺 Shapes, Stickers, Lines – Pink elements
  • ✏️ Text Elements – Green elements

Some functions affect your entire video and therefore do not appear on the timeline:

  • Subtitles
Subtitles apply to your entire video and are not displayed on the timeline. You can find them under the “Subtitles” tab.

  • Chapters
Chapters structure your entire video, not just individual scenes. You can find them under the “Chapters” tab.
  • Quizzes
Quizzes are not part of the timeline. They appear as orange elements in the scene list on the left-hand side. You can add a new quiz by clicking the blue plus button.

Tracks

The timeline is divided into several tracks. Overlapping tracks define the visual hierarchy — elements on higher tracks appear above those on lower tracks (for example, text displayed over a video).

  • Main Track
The blue video track is the main track of your video. It contains your video (or audio, if no video is present) and defines the duration of the scene. The main track is always visible at the top of the timeline. All other elements must fit within the length of this track.
  • Alignment with the Main Track
All timeline elements are synchronized with the blue video track. If you trim, move, add, or delete a video or audio segment on the main track, all other elements automatically adjust their positions accordingly.
  • New Track
When you add a new element, a new track is automatically created. If an element overlaps another, it’s automatically moved to its own track.
  • Deleting a Track
A track is automatically removed once the last element on it is deleted.
  • Hierarchy
The order of tracks on the timeline matches the layer order of elements on the canvas. You can change this order to decide which elements appear in front or behind others.

💡 Tip: All elements are aligned with the blue video track — it forms the foundation of your scene.

Working on the Timeline

Here’s how to edit elements on the timeline:

  • Move an Element
You can move elements along the timeline using drag and drop. If the element overlaps another, it will automatically move to a new track.
  • Trim an Element
You can adjust how long an element appears by resizing it. Use the trim handles on either side of the element and drag them with your mouse. If the element overlaps another during trimming, it’s automatically moved to a new track.

💡Don’t worry — your video content isn’t lost. If you extend the element again, all information remains intact.

  • Cut Video or Audio
    • You can cut your video or audio directly on the blue main track:
      1. Move the playhead to the desired position on the timeline.
      2. Click the Split button to make the cut.
    • For additional audio tracks (orange track):
      1. Click the orange element on the timeline
      2. Move the playhead to the desired position
      3. Click the Split button to divide the track

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I move the blue elements with drag & drop?
Currently, drag & drop is not available for the blue main track. However, you can move elements using the arrow buttons in the action menu: Click the blue element on the timeline — a small menu will appear where you can move the element left or right.

Why can’t I delete my video from the blue track?
You can remove individual video segments from the timeline. However, there must always be at least one video or audio element present. The last remaining blue element cannot be deleted.

A new track keeps being created — can I fix that?
When an element overlaps another, it’s automatically moved to a new track. At the moment, manually merging elements back onto a single track is not possible.

Why are elements in different tracks?
There are different track types — for example, the main video track (blue), slide track (yellow), and additional audio track (orange). Each element is automatically assigned to the correct track type. Mixing track types is not supported.

How can I preview my entire video?
Currently, you can only preview individual scenes. A full video preview of the entire project is not yet available.
