Videos: The Ideal Learning Format
DPD is one of Germany's largest parcel delivery services. Its white and red delivery vans transport 350 million parcels annually. To ensure smooth operations, a team of around 9,000 employees across 79 depots supports this effort. In a competitive market, DPD relies heavily on digital services. Digital innovations are also being driven forward in administration. Magdalena Nolte, as Senior Expert Learning Consulting, is responsible for digital learning at DPD. Employee-generated content from various departments also plays a significant role in this. Magdalena Nolte's task is to equip employees with suitable learning formats and tools for this purpose. This includes Omnora's authoring tool, which DPD has been using since 2022.

"We use Omnora extensively for process descriptions and software training. In these videos, we explain how our systems are used.", explains Magdalena Nolte, describing Omnora's role at DPD Germany. As an example, Nolte mentions operational training, such as how to use parcel scanners. Over the past two and a half years, the authoring team has already produced more than 1,800 videos. "Video is the perfect learning format for these topics, allowing us to effectively reach younger colleagues as well," says Nolte. The learning videos are then integrated as needed into the existing learning management system "DPD E-Akademie," the "oneDPD" intranet, or SharePoint. Thanks to Omnora's universal interfaces, this is easily possible.
How DPD Promotes the Use of Employee-Generated Content
"The use of Omnora within the company continues to grow organically," says Nolte, expressing great satisfaction with the development. However, she also takes several steps to support the authors in the various departments. For example, she regularly invites them to information events and training sessions, sometimes together with her Customer Success Manager at Omnora. Nolte: "I would recommend to every company to repeatedly demonstrate with concrete examples how Omnora can be optimally used to advance the company." The approximately 240 active authors are also part of a Teams group where tips and suggestions are shared.
"Many colleagues find it convenient that they don't have to voice their videos themselves and instead use the AI function."
1 Hour Instead of 1 Day: More Efficiency Thanks to AI
Nolte was positively surprised by the use of AI functions in Omnora: "We had organized an information event about the AI functions. However, our authors told us that they had already proactively tested and were regularly using the AI functions. So, the usability of the AI functions is excellent!" At DPD, the automatic creation of learning videos from PowerPoint presentations is particularly popular: "Many colleagues find it convenient that they don't have to voice their videos themselves and instead use the AI function."

In her role as an L&D expert, however, Nolte recommends carefully considering which topics are suitable for AI-generated videos and for which it's better to use authentic recordings: "Fortunately, in Omnora, I can choose between different video formats. But if it's purely reference material, for example, you can easily hand it over to the AI and produce an avatar video with three clicks." Learning videos, which previously sometimes took a full workday to create manually, can now be produced in about an hour thanks to AI, Nolte estimates the time savings and summarizes: "Omnora's AI significantly simplifies our employees' work."
